Set on its own private peninsular, Mount Hartman Bay Estate looks across the water to the Mount Hartman nature reserve, home of the protected Grenadian dove. The bay itself is guarded at its entrance by coral reefs and is one of the most beautiful and sheltered in the Caribbean. The main building, which is called locally the 'Cave', is built into the hillside with a grass and cactus covered domed roof. It has excited many fanciful descriptions since it was first built. According to local legend and an overdose of Bond movies, you can be transported by elevator from the
large door set into the cliff at the end of the helipad and private jetty straight into the main reception room
some hundred feet above (it's actually a cupboard in the cliff for some of the water sports equipment but it's a great story)!
Others see the influences of Gaudi in the design, or of the Hobbit or, even, of Tracy Island from Thunderbirds.
No matter what the description, it's an amazing property, which has featured in many television programmes and coffee table books, including HGTV's World's Most Extreme Homes feature and a whole chapter in Tropical Homes of the Eastern Caribbean, the #1 architectural bestseller from ozonezonebooks.com in the Amazon best seller charts.
The common areas at Mount Hartman Bay Estate are delightfully spacious. The main
sitting area has a vaulted ceiling with an internal waterfall cascading from the roof. Two sides of the room, which also houses the bar, have wood and glass shutters that are usually open onto the balcony and to the prevailing warm breezes.
The library is home to a collection of books, PlayStation games and dvd's. There is a PC with internet and Skype access for the use of guests and a 50" screen on which to watch tv or dvd's. Each of the suites has its own cd/dvd player so you can borrow films from the library to watch in your own suite if you prefer.
Wireless internet covers the whole Estate.
There is an air conditioned gym on the property with a Power Plate, free weights, running machine, stretch ball and other pieces of equipment. If you open the doors, it becomes the gym with probably the best view in the world.
A personal trainer is available on request. He can devise a programme for you designed to send you home fitter than when you arrived or to keep you toned.
A 27m (85ft) infinity pool surrounds the folly on three sides and is good for exercise and fun. It's a constant 1.5m (4'6") deep and has a wide decking area with comfortable loungers for sun bathing. Trees provide shade at one end. There are electric awnings with outdoor air conditioning in another area and a bar in the base of the folly.
At the end of the pool, overlooking the mouth of the bay and the nature reserve is a seating area with underwater massage jets. It's an ideal place to sit with a glass of wine and relax.
A private, golden-sand beach is part of the property and leads into the clean waters of Mount Hartman Bay.
For guests who want to arrive at the property by sea or air, there is a 30m (100ft) long teak deck with private, deep water moorings and a helipad on the end of the jetty. A swim ladder is provided at the end of the dock for people who like to dive and swim in deeper waters.
There is fishing and snorkelling equipment available, along with a rechargeable sea scooter to tow you through the water. There's a sailing dinghy for guest use and instruction is available if required. Anyone using the water sports equipment will be required to sign a waiver form.
A water jet boat is available at extra charge; it is ideal for water-skiing, wakeboarding and donut rides. A 51ft superboat is also available for charter for a trip to see the underwater sea sculpture park at Molinere, across to Hog Island for a beach barbeque or wherever takes your fancy. Anyone using the water sports equipment will be required to sign a waiver form.
An in-suite massage and spa treatment menu is available.
